Come Home To Mama, le nouvel album de Martha Wainwright, sera disponible le 16 octobre prochain sous étiquette MapleMusic Recordings. Réalisé par Yuka Honda (Cibo Matto, Sean Lennon, Yoko Ono) et écrit par Martha Wainwright, Come Home To Mama nous transporte dans une montagne russe d’émotions.
Martha Wainwright s’est rendue à New York, au studio de Sean Lennon, plus tôt cette année afin d’enregistrer la majorité des pièces de ce dernier opus. Come Home To Mama est l’amalgame entre le son de son tout premier album éponyme paru en 2005, empreint d’angoisse et de passion, et le côté un brin plus pop de I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too, paru en 2008.

Auparavant, Wainwright confiait la réalisation de ses albums à son mari Brad Albetta, mais cette fois-ci elle a choisi Yuka Honda afin d’ajouter une touche plus féminine. Le mari de Honda et guitariste du groupe rock alternatif Wilco, Nels Cline, trace le fil conducteur musical de cet album captivant. La basse d’Albetta, les claviers de Thomas Bartlett (Doveman) et la batterie de Jim White (Dirty Three) complètent ce nouveau disque.

“Concevoir cet album a été une expérience complètement différente, explique Martha. L’approche de Yuka était très ouverte. Parfois, j’enregistrais seulement la voix, en chantant dans le placard qui servait aux captations vocales, ensuite, elle construisait la chanson autour de la voix. Dans d’autres cas, nous improvisions avec quelques musiciens et tentions de créer une performance live.”

moi ces dernières années et cet album est une représentation de ces changements. Il m’a aussi ramené à la raison pour laquelle j’écris des chansons, a-t-elle ajouté. “J’ai vraiment hâte de prendre la route avec ma famille et mes nouveaux musiciens!”

Martha Wainwright to release new album Come To Home Mama on October 16th
Produced by Yuka Honda (Cibo Matto, Sean Lennon, Yoko Ono), and written by Martha Wainwright, Come Home To Mama (MapleMusic Recordings) is an emotional roller coaster that dazzles throughout.
Recorded earlier this year in New York City, mostly at Sean Lennon's home studio, Come Home To Mama has the passionate angst of her 2005 self-titled debut coupled with the twisted pop of 2008's I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too.
In the past, Wainwright worked with husband Brad Albetta, but this time out chose Honda to add a feminine touch. Honda's husband, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, provides the musical thread throughout this captivating disc. Guest musicians on the new album include Thomas Bartlett (Doveman), keyboards; Brad Albetta, bass and drummer Jim White (Dirty Three).
"Making this record was a totally different experience," Wainwright says. "Yuka's approach was very open. Sometimes I would just demo the song, singing in the closet which served as the vocal booth, then she would build the track around that. In other instances we would jam with a few musicians and try to get a live take."
"This record is a culmination of my life experiences so far. Everything changed for me a couple years ago and this record is a representation of that and a return to the reason I started writing songs," she adds. "I can't wait to hit the road with my family and new band in tow."
