Mundial c’est l’opportunité de découvrir le meilleur des talents émergents en musique du monde venant à la fois du Canada et de l’international : qualité et ambiance chaleureuse garanties! En quate jours, Mundial propose trente-deux artistes à découvrir en vitrine dans une variété de salles montréalaises.

La soirée d’ouverture de la huitième édition célèbrera la femme lors d’une soiré au Cabaret du Lion d’Or et sera présentée en collaboration avec le KAMS (Korea Arts Management Services) et le PAMS (Performing Arts Market in Seoul).

La semaine se terminera sur un point d’orgue lors d’une soirée de clôture présentant trois groupes au Club Soda. Présentée en collaboration avec la COOP Les Faux-Monnayeurs, 1 2 3 GO PRODUCTIONS et ICI Musique, la soirée mettra de l’avant Nomad’Stones (Révélation Radio-Canada 2018-19), Ayrad et Daby Touré.

QUATRE JOURS DE MUSIQUE
Parmi la vingtaine d’artistes canadiens en vitrine, vous retrouverez plusieurs musiciens autochtones dans le cadre de la série Accents Autochtones, avec cinq groupes en vitrine, incluant le gagnant du prestigieux Prix Polaris Jeremy Dutcher (Wolastoq – Tobique First Nation, Nouveau Brunswick), Riit, une chanteuse pop qui inclut la tradition du chant de gorge dans sa pratique (Inuit – Pangnirtung, Nunavut), le trio électro-chant de gorge Silla and Rise (Inuit - Nunavut), le groupe de fusion québécois OktoEcho (Inuit – Québec) et deux invités internationaux : la chanteuse-compositrice-interprète Emily Wurramara (Anindilyakwa – Australie), et la chanteuse traditionnelle de joik Elle Márjá Eira (Sami – Norvège).

Encore une fois cette année, sera présents toute une gamme de talents canadiens aux origines et sonorités diverses dont les Montréalais Ramon Chicharron et Waahli/, les Torontois OKAN, deux groupes de la Colombie-Britannique : (Farnaz Ohadi & Mashregh Ensemble et Itamar Erez), Gordie Mackeeman and his Rhythm Boys de l’île du Prince-Édouard, et plusieurs autres.

De plus, de nombreux groupes internationaux incluant Fränder (Suède), Miroca Paris (Cap-Vert) et les « Indiens » du Mardi Gras Cha Wa (Louisiane, É-U) font partie de la programmation complète, disponible ici.

La mosaïque musicale est une expression consacrée du paysage culturel canadien. C'est notre thème, cette année; nous pouvons donc nous distinguer du « melting pot » américain. Notre approche tient compte de tous les patrimoines culturels et offre une vision inclusive de l'identité musicale canadienne. Par conséquent, nos chances de « paix, d'amour et de compréhension » s'épanouissent. En tant que « colons » sur des terres colonisées, nous continuons également à reconnaître la nécessité de nous éduquer sur les cultures des populations autochtones. Mundial offers the chance to discover some of the best emerging artists from Canada and beyond! High quality artists from around the country come to perform showcases at Mundial. Our shows are stacked with talent, to be discovered and enjoyed.

The opening night at Cabaret Lion d'Or features a mosaic of female-fronted groups artists from different backgrounds. We are pleased to be collaborating with KAMS – Korea Arts Management Service / PAMS (Performing Arts Market Seoul), for the third year in a row to co-present opening night’s music and mingling!

The week ends with a bang on Friday with a closing party at Club Soda featuring Montrealers Nomad’Stones (2018-19 Révélations ICI Musique), Ayrad and Daby Touré.

FOUR DAYS OF MUSIC
Out of the 30+ artists showcasing, a significant focus is the Indigenous Sounds series, featuring 6 groups including 2018 Polaris Prize winner Jeremy Dutcher (Wolastoqiyik – Tobique First Nation, New Brunswick), throat singing folk pop artist Riit (Inuit – Pangnirtung, Nunavut), Juno-nominated electro-throat singing group Silla and Rise (Inuit - Nunavut), Québécois fusion group OktoEcho (Inuit - Québec) plus two international guests: singer-songwriter Emily Wurramara (Anindilyakwa - Australia), and yoik artist Elle Márjá Eira (Sami – Norway).

Music Mosaic is a turn of phrase natural to the Canadian cultural landscape. It is our theme this year, so we can distinguish ourselves from the “melting pot” to the south. We retain heritage, offer positive settlement practices, and as a result, our chances for “peace, love and understanding” flourish. As “settlers” on colonized land, we also continue to recognize the need to educate ourselves about Indigenous emergence.
