A new song from his upcoming album to be released in 2020

Today Antoine Corriveau unveils “Quelqu’un,” a new song from his upcoming album to be released in 2020. “Quelqu’un is the first song I wrote for the album. I wanted it to be a self-portrait, in a way. I had the feeling to have written a lot about the people around me and the world that I live in, but not much about who I am. I looked for a way to write about myself without being self-centred, which became the quest of the entire album.”
He goes on: “I remember the evening better than the day itself. It was summer, time flew by, I didn’t leave the studio all day, and I probably didn’t eat enough. I was going to meet Pietro at Jarry Park. On the way there, in my 2002 Corolla, I listened to the song I had just (almost) finished too often and too loud. It was called Quelqu’un, and I had recorded 3 or 4 guitar tracks for the climax. The kind of tone that you only get if the amp is close to feedback. I realized that this was the first time that I recorded a guitar in a studio that sounded like how I can play live. Too loud, a bit erratic, saturating the stage monitors but making me feel like I was doing the right thing at the right time. I’m about to release new songs, without knowing when I’ll be able to play them live. It’s bizarre and unprecedented, somewhat like that song was for me on that day in July 2019. These are the first words that came out for my new album. It was natural for them to be the first that I share with the world.”
Antoine Corriveau is a fully fledged artist. In the Quebec musical landscape since 2011, he broke through in 2014 with the critically acclaimed Les Ombres Longues. That album featured the song “Le nouveau vocabulaire,” which won the Prix de la chanson SOCAN (by popular vote). Cette Chose qui cognait au creux de sa poitrine sans vouloir s’arrêter was released in October 2016, earning 4 nominations at the Gala de ADISQ, making it onto the Polaris Music Prize 2017 Long List, being included among the ten finalists for the Prix Félix Leclerc – and winning the Prix André “Dédé” Fortin, presented by SPACQ to an emerging artist, as well as the Indie Rock Album of the Year award at the 2017 GAMIQ Gala.
Clearly, his reputation is firmly established. And while his music can initially seem intended for a niche audience, the vast Francophone market — which is very fond of Americana and ethereal songwriting — is already closely monitoring Corriveau’s career. In that regard, it should be noted that he was picked as one of the five new voices to watch out for by Le Point (France): “He is often compared to Bashung. It is true that their voices, their writing and their looks are not all that different.” The Feu de forêt EP was released on the Secret City Records label in November 2019, thrilling critics, in addition to winning the Folk EP of the Year award at the 2019 GAMIQ Gala. It also received a four-star review in La Presse, and it was lauded in France and the United States. “More than ever, he remains a genuine treasure. We are blessed to live in the same era as him […]” (Tsugi); “exhilarating, cinematic rock” (Brooklyn Vegan).
