CRi unveils a music video, made during social isolation, for Never Really Get There
Quebec producer Cri, in collaboration with Jesse Mac Cormack, is unveiling today a music video for Never Really Get There.
Cri, who recently released a cover of Daniel Bélanger's Fous n'importe où, performed by Charlotte Cardin, is back with a collaboration with Jesse Mac Cormack. Combining Mac Cormack's delicate voice with alternative electronic sounds, CRi presents Never Really Get There, released on the Anjunadeep label, a highly respected independent electronic music label based in London.
The creative process for this song was really fast. We met in my studio on a Friday afternoon. We were supposed to write a song for a Chinese telephone company. Without saying a word, Jesse went straight to the piano, played a few chords and started singing. That's when I realized we weren't going to be doing a song for a commercial after all. - CRi
This song is about denial, and the way we set our expectations too high in some relationships, always pushing back the moment when we’re confronted by the parts of ourselves we don't want to see. - Jesse Mac Cormack
The music video for the single was directed by CRi's sister, filmmaker and director Alexa-Jeanne Dubé. Among the actors in the video are Karine Gonthier-Hyndman (C'est comme ça que je t'aime), Nahéma Ricci (Antigone) and Jean-Simon Leduc (Chien de garde). Because of the pandemic, the video was filmed during social isolation. CRi explains: I had this idea of a voyeur, of looking through a window at people dancing in their homes. For me, the window represents a kind of bridge between two worlds, two realities, the inside and the outside. It's symbolic of the song, because Never Really Get There is about being stuck outside yourself and not being able to get in.
INFO Christophe Dubé, aka CRi, combines light, dreamlike melodies with textured production, capturing the energy of the dance floor and the nostalgia of the morning after. Nominated at the 2018 Juno Awards in the category "Electronic Album of the Year" for the Someone Else EP, as well as at the iHeartRadio MMVAs and the Prism Award for the stunning clip Rush, CRi is currently working on material that will be released in the coming months.
