Martha Wainwright dévoile une troisième chanson tirée de son album à paraître le 20 août prochain, Love Will Be Reborn. La pièce Hole In My Heart est une ode au recommencement et à la recherche de l'amour. Cet extrait succède à la sortie de la pièce titre de l’album, Love Will Be Reborn ainsi qu’à sa toute première chanson en français, Falaise de malaise.

En contraste avec Falaise de malaise, plutôt imprégnée de tristesse et de désespoir, Hole In My Heart déborde de joie, et c’est exactement ce que l’on ressent quand on visionne le clip.

Martha explique comment cette chanson d'espoir a vu le jour : J’ai écrit Hole In My Heart alors que j'étais assise dans une pièce ensoleillée, absorbée par cet incroyable sentiment de joie. Après m'être sentie effrayée, seule et incertaine de tout, j’ai fait une rencontre qui a changé ma vie. Cette chanson est à propos de l’engagement, de la vie à deux, ensemble contre vents et marées. "We all live alone... but do you want to live alone together?"

Comme beaucoup d’albums, Love Will Be Reborn a été réalisé pendant la pandémie mondiale. Installée dans son tout nouveau café, l’espace Ursa, qui lui sert aussi de studio, Martha s’est mise au travail. Elle a fait appel aux musiciens torontois Thom Gill, Phil Melanson et Josh Cole ainsi qu’au réalisateur Pierre Marchand, qui a un lien avec la famille de Martha. En effet, Marchand a réalisé le deuxième album de son frère Rufus, Poses, ainsi que le disque de la mère et de la tante de Martha, Heartbeats Accelerating. À l’époque de cet enregistrement, Kate McGarrigle avait le même âge qu’a Martha aujourd’hui. De plus, l’album succédait à un temps de pause dans les carrières des deux femmes, ce qui rend le tout très synergique aux yeux de Martha.

Présentement en tournée, Martha Wainwright a récemment annoncé une nouvelle collaboration avec la COOP Les Faux-Monnayeurs, à titre de producteur de spectacles. Elle sera de passage en Europe et aux États-Unis au cours des prochaines semaines pour revenir vers les salles du Québec en octobre prochain. Voir la liste complète des dates ci-dessous. Montreal songstress Martha Wainwright shares her third new song from upcoming album Love Will Be Reborn, the uplifting “Hole In My Heart”. The track is an ode to finding love and starting again. Wainwright has had a busy year having already released two tracks from her new album out August 20th, the title track “Love Will Be Reborn” and the franglish single “Falaise De Malaise.”

Offering another sneak peek at the new album, “Hole In My Heart” is a playful song that’s brimming with joy. The song serves as the emotional flip side to previous song “Falaise de Malaise”, a song steeped in despair and sadness, the storm to the sunshine that is “Hole In My Heart.” The video captures this joy – watch it here.

A song of hope, Martha explains the how the song came to be, “Hole in my heart flew out of me when I was sitting in a sunny room trying to contend with this incredible feeling of joy and gladness. After feeling scared and lonely and unsure of everything, someone came along and changed my life. ‘We all live alone... but do you want to live alone together?’. It's about making a commitment to living as two, together, against the odds.”

Like most records this year, Love Will Be Reborn was made during the global pandemic and recorded in Wainwright’s hometown of Montreal, in the basement of her brand-new cafe, Ursa which also served as a studio. Enlisting the help of Toronto musicians Thom Gill, Phil Melanson, Morgan Moore and Josh Cole and producer Pierre Marchand, best-known for his collaborations with Sarah McLachlan producing some of her iconic 90s songs. Marchand also has a familial connection to Wainwright, having produced her brother Rufus’s second album poses as well as Wainwright’s mother and aunt’s record, Heartbeats Accelerating. It was a record made after some time, much like Wainwright’s gap since 2016’s Goodnight City, and McGarrigle was the same age that Wainwright is now. It seems like a musical synergy only the late McGarrigle and Wainwright could have.
