Enregistré live, avec la généreuse participation d'incroyables musiciens aux violoncelle, basse, guitare électrique, batterie et percussions, Dark Blue respire la vérité, résonne l'authenticité et célèbre la nostalgie. L'œuvre composée dans les profondeurs de la pandémie s’est vue devenir un amalgame de douceur et de tendresse, abordant les thèmes du mystère, de l'enfance, de l'amour et du bonheur.

La première pièce s’adresse à une personne qui erre, sans direction ni conviction. J’ai écrit Darling pour une amie, complètement perdue dans la complexité de l’amour. J’ai voulu lui offrir un peu d'espoir et lui ouvrir les bras à travers cette musique et ces paroles, explique Nolton Lake.

Ce n'est pas un secret, la pandémie a eu des effets néfastes sur la santé mentale et à un certain point, il faut trouver le bonheur à l’intérieur de soi. La phrase titre Dancing Alone se retrouve à la fois dans la tristesse et dans un sentiment heureux, dans un moment difficile qui s’allège doucement, commente Nolton Lake.

Accrocheuse et groovy, Moon est une chanson édifiante et douce portant à la réflexion quant aux mystères de la vie et du monde. Le regard vers la lune, on observe et on reçoit l'immensité des miracles de la vie à travers ce texte.

Entre bonheur et nostalgie, le texte Virginia est imagé par ce sentiment heureux qui ne reviendra peut-être pas, mais qu’on apprécie encore aujourd’hui. Je me rappelle ces longs trajets en voiture, sans souci, sans responsabilité, me faisant conduire d'un pays à l'autre, simplement pour être en famille ou entre amis, explique l’artiste.

Le mini-album se termine par Won’t You Say, une pièce qui laisse place au lâcher-prise, au sentiment d’impuissance face à certaines situations de la vie. C’est probablement une des expériences les plus difficiles à vivre, car on doit se laisser porter sans contrôle. Il ne reste qu’à inspirer et expirer, inspirer et expirer, conclut l’auteur.

Accompagné d’une guitare acoustique et d’un sitar indien, Nolton Lake offrira quelques spectacles au cours des prochains mois. Sa voix douce et réconfortante chantant l'amour universel nous fera voyager d'un pays à l'autre, d'une ambiance à une autre, grâce à ses sonorités uniques. L’ouverture à tout être humain, quelles que soient ses origines, ses croyances ou ses préférences, est au centre des sujets abordés.

  

The Dark Blue EP was born during winter, in the large Gésu church hall in Montréal. A live setting, and a live recording to play Nolton Lake’s compositions. With the generous participation of amazing musicians on the cello, the bass, the electric guitar, and drums/percussions, the EP bleeds truth, resonates with authenticity, and celebrates nostalgia. It’s a smooth and tender album, on the themes of mystery, childhood, love, and introverted happiness. The soft acoustic guitars and the beautifully woven lyrics melt together with the other instruments to create a calm, yet a cheerful, catchy yet ethereal musical moment.

Darling was written for a friend. A suffering friend, being lost in the eyes of love. It was meant to cheer on someone who seemed to wander without direction and faith. It is a simple message of hope that I tried to sing. I think, in this heartfelt tune, you can feel the open hand and open arms, through the music, the chorus, and the lyrics, explains Nolton Lake.

It’s no secret that the pandemic had its effect on mental health and Dancing Alone is an elegy to finding happiness within yourself. This song was written as a difficult moment slowly fading away. From Dancing Alone to being a sad phrase, to dancing alone being a happy vision of one, smiling, and knowing that everything’s not only going to be fine but already is, adds the artist.

Moon is a catchy, groovy, and bouncy song about the mysteries of the mind and the mysteries of the world. Simply a young person, looking at the moon, alone, wondering about life, death, birds, and all other mind-recking subjects. These questions are in essence the reason thinkers think. But at the end of this journey, no answer is necessary to just sit on your moon, observe and be thankful to be a part of this great mystery.

Virginia is a happy song, filled to the brim with nostalgia. It reminds me of those long car rides when I was very young, without a bother, without a responsibility, being driven from one country to another, simply to be as a family, as friends. In my mind, that feeling of happiness might never come back, but the “good old days” are always the ones we’re living right now. So it’s a reminder of what was lost, with the power to teach about the present moment, comments the author.

Won’t You Say is about watching someone slowly slip away from you. Powerless, you stand there, your heart filled with love, as theirs is slowly leaking. It’s probably one of the most intense experiences one can live, to witness something happen so slowly, without anything to do to fix it. The only thing you can do is to let it happen, and breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out, concludes Nolton Lake.

The audience will follow Nolton Lake in a sort of trance, with acoustic guitar, Indian sitar, and a soft and confident voice, singing about universal love, the joy of discovery, and peace. He speaks truths and is open to every human being whatever their origins, their beliefs, or their preferences, "we are one" listening to this show. The storyline makes us travel from one country to another, from one vibe to another, thanks to the different open tunings on his guitar and to the Indian sitar which defines his unique sound.
