About Le 9e
Eaton's ninth floor restaurant – Le 9e – is an Art Deco landmark in Montreal, operated by Eaton's department store for 68 years until its closure in 1999. In 1925, Timothy Eaton purchased the three-storey department store building, renovating it to add six additional storeys. In 1931, Eaton’s opened a restaurant on the ninth floor, architecturally inspired by the ambience of travelling on a transatlantic French luxury liner. Eaton’s closed in 1999, but the restaurant was given heritage status. Finally, after being closed to the public for a quarter of a century, Le 9e was renovated and reopened as a restaurant, bar, and special events venue in 2024. This iconic heritage restaurant is now open again after nearly a quarter of a century, to the delight of those who used to go there as well as younger people keen to discover it for the first time.
