"When I did Solo Recordings Volume 1, I was learning how to become a one-man-band as I recorded, live off the floor, just like I did on Volume 2. Thanks to the 168 shows that followed the release of Volume 1, I was able to refine my technique and add instruments to the mix. You could say that I am now officially a bonafied one-man-band!" explains Steve Hill. As with Solo Recordings Volume 2, the blues gets spiced up with rock and roll, folk and outlaw-country. Steve Hill has reached new heights. “I achieved a new level of maturity with this album, both in terms of my writing, guitar playing and my voice." In addition to singing and playing guitar, Steve Hill also plays harmonica, bass drum, snare, hi-hat and percussion with his feet. The album includes original songs, as well as two Blues classics from the 1950s and one song that was originally featured on first album in 1997, Simple Things. Still Got it Bad Tough Luck The new album is a follow-up to his first foray into the one-man-band concept, Solo Recordings Volume 1, which won great critical and popular acclaim, including Best Self-Produced CD at the Memphis International Blues Challenge, 5 awards at the 11th Annual Lys Blues Gala - most notably for Blues Album of the Year - and a Juno nomination for Blues Album of the Year. The next few months will be an exciting time for Steve Hill, as an international tour with stops on many continents is definitely in the works. Join us for the official album launch on March 5 at the Petit Olympia (1282 Amherst Street). Steve will be playing a few tracks from his eighth album, which once again pushes the limits of the one-man-band concept. Doors open at 5PM and the event is free! |
