Just a few weeks before the release of his fifth album, SuperFolk, Ian Kelly presents this excellent teaser: a debut single for radio, simply entitled Montréal. Montréal The folk-styled song, in the language of Molière, is a luminous ode about the sense of belonging he feels for his hometown. “I was born in Montréal, and I lived there for the first 30 years of my life. For the past 6 years, I’ve been living in the country, and I love it. I am a little torn between them – I don’t imagine I’ll ever move back to the city, but a big part of me is still there. Montréal is not a “breakup” song, because even though I’ve left, Montréal is who I am more than where I am,” says the singer-songwriter. Montréal is one of two francophone songs on Kelly’s lost-and-found SuperFolk album, scheduled for release on March 4 on the Sunset Hill Music label and distributed by Outside. Kelly’s new album became a cause-célèbre when his master tape was stolen from his car and then returned to him, thanks to a campaign spread through social media, newspapers and radio across Québec, extending across the entire country and overseas. As luck would have it, Kelly’s audience will get to hear the album in full when it is released on March 4. The SuperFolk solo tour is scheduled for autumn 2016, with dates to be announced soon. |
